About

Cedar-Cove-A24647-e1336005746662.jpg

A dedication to honest, hard work. Sharing the simple pleasures of life with family and friends. An appreciation for the time-honored skill of crafting something by hand. Connecting with community. These are the values I was raised with, and are a big part of what I love about craft beer. Craft beer is part of a larger movement that is changing the way we get the products we use and connect with the people who make them; helping us look beyond mass-production to things that are local and crafted by hand - the way they used to be. There's just something about filling up a growler at your local brewery while you chat with the brew master and catch up with your neighbors that epitomizes this return to a personal, traditional approach to craft and business.

I'm a business lawyer and practice at Singleton Urquhart Reynolds Vogel LLP in Vancouver. From negotiating and drafting key operational agreements, to advising on regulatory approvals and corporate structuring, I work closely with clients in BC's craft beer industry to help them maximize their potential, minimize their risk, and navigate the unexpected challenges and opportunities that they encounter along the way. See my bio here.  My understanding of the issues that are unique to BC's craft brewers and the platform that a full-service law firm provides allows me to give comprehensive, specialized and cost-effective legal services to an industry that I feel passionately about.

While BC’s craft brewers operate within a uniquely challenging regulatory environment, they also deal with many of the same issues that confront all small and medium-sized businesses—things like leasing space, borrowing money to finance growth, and contracting with other companies. In addition to specializing in the laws and issues that are unique to BC's craft beer industry, I also have a general business law practice. This allows me to assist my clients in the industry with a variety of issues at every stage of their growth and development, from leasing, business structuring, financing, and liquor licensing and distribution, to intellectual property and trademarks, employee and shareholder issues, and municipal permits and licensing.

If you want to grab a pint or two and learn more about me, what I do for my clients in the industry, and what I can do to help your business, see my Contact page and drop me a line.
